Before Transitioning to FLUX

Slow and Sluggish Storefront  - Magento's monolithic architecture caused slow page loads and sluggish rendering that disrupted the shopping experience of customers.

Limited Content Management  - Magento 2.2's rigid architecture made content management a constant bottleneck. Simple page updates, promotional banners, and rich content that showcased GAP's craftsmanship often required developer involvement, making it slow and costly to keep the storefront fresh and market new offerings effectively.

End-of-life platform - Magento 2.2 was no longer supported, leaving GAP exposed to growing security vulnerabilities. A traditional Adobe Commerce (Magento Enterprise) upgrade meant weeks of development work, high risk of breaking existing customizations, and costs running well into the tens of thousands of dollars, a cycle that resets with every major version change.

G.A. Precision builds custom rifles trusted by competitive shooters, hunters, the military, and law enforcement across the United States.

Their Adobe Commerce (Magento Enterprise 2.2) website couldn't keep up with the brand. GAP was dealing with a platform that had fallen behind in nearly every way that mattered.

FLUX at Work: Faster Results, Less Friction

G.A. Precision's website was re-platformed from an older unsupported Magento version to the latest version of Adobe Commerce (Magento Enterprise), paired with a full website redesign that modernizes the experience without deviating from the brand's identity.

The new storefront is powered by Flux, a headless platform built for Adobe Commerce that decouples the frontend from the backend using React, Next.js, and i18next, connecting to Adobe Commerce's backend via GraphQL.

With Flux handling the presentation layer, Adobe Commerce (Magento Enterprise) focuses solely on core commerce functionality including product catalog management, inventory, order processing, and customer management.

This headless approach delivers the blazing fast storefront speed GAP's customers demand, seamlessly blends commerce and content, and reduces total cost of ownership by simplifying upgrades and cutting the time and effort required for ongoing maintenance and development.

Optimized Performance on Adobe Commerce with FLUX

Flux's headless architecture delivered a 42% site speed increase from their previous Magento 2.2 storefront. GAP's new storefront using Flux has achieved a passing Core Web Vitals and high Lighthouse scores across performance, SEO, accessibility, and best practices.

1 PASSING CORE WEB VITALS

GAP's Flux-powered storefront passes Google's Core Web Vitals assessment with the overwhelming majority of real-world page loads scoring "Good" across every measured metric including Largest Contentful Paint (LCP), Interaction to Next Paint (INP), and Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS). Very few page loads fall into "Needs Improvement" and virtually none register as "Poor." This matters beyond the shopping experience itself.

Core Web Vitals are direct Google ranking signals, meaning a site that passes with this level of consistency earns better search engine visibility than one that struggles. Better organic rankings drive more traffic, and more qualified traffic combined with a fast, stable browsing experience translates directly into higher conversions.

2 HIGH LIGHTHOUSE SCORES ACROSS ALL CATEGORIES

GAP's storefront achieves high Google Lighthouse scores across all four audited categories: Performance, Accessibility, Best Practices, and SEO. These scores reflect overall site health and are not just technical benchmarks.

Strong Performance and SEO scores contribute to improved organic search rankings, bringing in more qualified visitors without additional ad spend.  High Accessibility scores mean more shoppers can navigate and purchase without friction, reducing abandonment across a broader audience.

Together, these results signal a storefront that is well-built, well-optimized, and positioned to perform in search, retain visitors, and convert effectively.

3 AI AND LLM-READY STOREFRONT

GAP'S Flux-powered storefront achieved a perfect 2/2 score on agentic browsing assessment, meaning autonomous AI agents can navigate, read, and interact with the site without friction. As AI assistants and large language models become a growing channel for product discovery, this is becoming as important as traditional SEO.

Flux enables this through server-side rendering that delivers complete HTML to AI crawlers, semantic markup that gives AI models the context to correctly understand GAP's products, and LLM.txt support that helps AI-powered search tools accurately surface GAP in relevant results.

FLUX's Additional Wins

1 HEADLESS COMMERCE PERFORMANCE

On traditional Magento storefronts, every click triggers a full server round-trip, forcing the browser to re-download and re-render entire pages on every navigation.

For GAP's customers browsing high-consideration products like custom precision rifles, that kind of sluggish experience creates hesitation and drop-off at exactly the wrong moments.  With Flux, the storefront operates more like a native app. After the initial load, navigation happens client-side, only the necessary data is fetched, and pages update instantly without a full reload. Next.js also prefetches pages in the background so by the time a customer clicks, the next page is already ready.

The result for GAP is a browsing experience that feels immediate, smooth, and worthy of the premium products they sell.

2 STOREFRONT REDESIGN ON FLUX

GAP's storefront was completely reimagined with a custom design tailored to the brand's identity and the premium nature of their precision rifle products. Built directly on Flux, the redesign was executed entirely within the presentation layer, leaving the Adobe Commerce (Magento Enterprise) backend untouched and fully operational throughout the process.

Every critical touchpoint in the customer journey, from product browsing and product detail pages to cart and checkout, was purpose-built to reflect GAP's brand and meet the expectations of their discerning customer base.

The per-breakpoint design controls allows each page to be independently optimized for desktop, tablet, and mobile, ensuring a refined and consistent experience across every device.

3 CONTENT MANAGEMENT MADE EASIER

Flux gives GAP's team the ability to build and publish fully responsive, on-brand pages directly from the Adobe Commerce admin, without developer involvement. Flux Page Builder extends Adobe Commerce's (Magento Enterprise) native Page Builder with true per-breakpoint control, allowing margins, padding, background images, and layout to be configured independently for desktop, tablet, and mobile.

Combined with Flux Custom Banner Slider, which is optimized for headless architecture with prioritized image loading, GAP can showcase new product launches, seasonal promotions, and brand content with high-impact visuals and zero performance compromise. These are changes that previously required a developer can now be made in minutes by the content team.

4 ADOBE COMMERCE UPGRADE COST REDUCTION

$ 11K Annual Upgrade Savings

Because Flux and Adobe Commerce (Magento Enterprise) are fully decoupled, upgrades to one side do not require touching the other. Security patches and backend updates can be applied to Adobe Commerce independently without any frontend changes, and core Flux packages can be updated on their own schedule. Custom code lives in one predictable location, making it straightforward to identify exactly what needs review after any update.

For GAP, this translated into $11,000 in annual upgrade savings, turning what was once a costly, high-risk undertaking into a manageable, lower-effort process that keeps the site secure and current without disrupting the storefront.

Custom features including their custom form builder that is usable across any page, a testimonials and photo gallery where customers can share their GAP experiences, and a custom image gallery on product detail pages were all delivered with the speed and precision that Flux's composable architecture enables. Features that would have been costly and time-consuming to build on Magento's monolithic frontend were scoped, built, and deployed efficiently.

5 CUSTOM FEATURES VIA COMPOSABLE ARCHITECTURE

Flux is built on a modular, composable infrastructure that makes adding new features additive rather than disruptive. New feature modules self-register everything they need, including components, queries, and API integrations, with a single line added to a configuration file. No boilerplate, no rewiring the codebase.

This directly benefited GAP's build-out.
